The next miner is below

Flight makes a narrow shaft feel different from a platforming jump. You can correct your height, but every correction uses time while the power meter falls. A wall offers a further choice: place dynamite and retreat, or spend longer cutting through with the laser. The miner at the end gives each descent a concrete destination. This is a compact rescue journey whose pressure comes from keeping movement deliberate even when the remaining power encourages haste.

A cartridge after 1983

John Van Ryzin’s Activision game reached the 2600 in 1984. Including it extends this hardware collection beyond the chapter’s main end date of 1983. The North American market’s contraction did not make ongoing software disappear at a single boundary, and H.E.R.O. provides a useful later example without requiring a claim about its commercial reception.

Control the descent

Practise short upward taps to control hovering, and leave room to retreat after setting dynamite. Try to recognise a passage before dropping into it. The early rescues teach the tools clearly; later routes demand enough recall that repeating a section becomes part of learning the game.

Why we chose it for Atari 2600

Controlled flight and limited equipment make each rescue a concise problem; its 1984 date also follows the library beyond the chapter boundary.
