Who controls the room?

The compact rooms make observation useful. A patrol, a locker and a place to hide a body offer several ways to avoid a fight, while an alarm changes the behaviour of the whole space. First-person aiming adds precision but fixes your attention in one direction. Lengthy conversations repeatedly interrupt those systems; the game asks you to engage with both its stealth and its increasingly doubtful explanations.

Experiment with non-lethal approaches and inspect rooms before moving. Give the dialogue time if the story interests you, and avoid reading a detailed synopsis beforehand. The original PS2 controls include pressure-sensitive actions, which later adaptations may handle differently.

A sequel built around expectations

Konami’s preserved site records the 2001 game and its later European introduction. Geoff Keighley’s contemporary access to the development team documents the work behind its PS2 transition. Its account of controlled information and player expectations is part of the story, rather than proof of a prediction about later technology.

Why we chose it for PlayStation 2

Responsive stealth systems sit beside a story concerned with instructions and unreliable information.
