Hyrule at two sizes

A small opening at the base of a wall can matter as much as a conspicuous dungeon entrance. Switching size changes which parts of Hyrule connect, so looking closely at a familiar place often produces a new route. Items such as the gust jar give the dungeons physical tasks to organise around: pull, push, clear and cross. Kinstone exchanges spread rewards through the towns and countryside, although checking acquaintances repeatedly can slow the otherwise compact adventure. The pleasure lies in seeing how much a change of scale can do with a modest area.

When a route seems closed, check whether it looks different at the other size. Revisit the town between dungeons, but do not turn every Kinstone exchange into a requirement before moving the story forward.

Capcom’s portable adventure

Capcom’s GBA Zelda arrived in Japan in November 2004. Shrinking gives familiar Zelda exploration a different scale: small objects become substantial terrain, and a location can contain routes for two sizes of traveller. Kinstone exchanges also connect conversations with changes elsewhere in the world.

Why we chose it for Game Boy Advance

Explore the same landscape at two sizes and watch small details become routes.
