A different body, a different route
Winning the opening fight leaves the hero breathing fire and looking distinctly less heroic. Later transformations alter the route again: a mouse can fit and cling where a larger body cannot, while a swimming form changes what water means. Returning to familiar ground becomes a test of your new abilities. The compact town is a useful reference point in a world whose exits make more sense with each trip.
The Dragon’s Trap began on Master System in 1989, following the ending of Wonder Boy in Monster Land. The similarly numbered Monster Lair is a different game. Later Game Gear and PC Engine adaptations should keep their own release dates and presentation notes.
Remember the places you cannot reach
Pay attention to places that your current form cannot reach. The sword has a short reach, so approach enemies deliberately. A saved state is convenient, but keep a password too if you are exploring how the original game preserved progress.
