The duel at the plate

The players’ exaggerated responses turn a hit or a missed opportunity into a small performance. Underneath that presentation, the contest still depends on judging a pitch and deciding when to swing. Auto-fielding reduces the amount a newcomer must manage, leaving room to understand the duel at the plate. The Power-bat makes choosing an opportunity part of the spectacle.

Use auto-fielding while learning the batting and pitching. A few innings with another player are enough to test whether the rhythm appeals. Treat a full match as the unit of play; a fictional single completion time would say little about this game.

Sport on the Neo Geo

SNK’s 1992 game demonstrates the sports side of a catalogue increasingly associated with fighters. It reached MVS and Japanese AES in the same year. Its broad animation and accessible fielding option make an instructive comparison with the more restrained timing of Neo Turf Masters.

Why we chose it for Neo Geo AES

Auto-fielding and exaggerated animation make the contest at the plate approachable without knowing every control at once.
