Keep the rally moving
Windjammers makes positioning easy to understand and difficult to keep right. Catching the disc is only half the task; the return needs to make the other player move. Sliding can rescue a rally while leaving you awkwardly placed for the next throw. The short distance between attack and defence gives a match the rhythm of a fighting game without a long move list to learn first.
Play locally with someone willing to exchange a few gentle throws before keeping score. Learn how far a slide carries you, then start changing the angle of returns. The match becomes more legible once both players can sustain a rally.
Data East on the court
Data East’s 1994 game supplies a different use for the Neo Geo’s two-player arcade setting. Its six characters and courts organise a sporting contest around a small set of actions. Both MVS and Japanese AES editions appeared that year; the later Dotemu release brought the original game to newer hardware.
Why we chose it for Neo Geo AES
Its small court and immediate returns make positioning readable even before either player has learned advanced techniques.

Japanese releases are explicitly separated into MVS, home ROM cartridge and CD. AES years use the home-ROM row; the original game year uses the arcade row. The catalogue’s company column is labelled Publisher, so it is not a source for individual staff credits.
