An arcade game rebuilt for home

The underlying game appeared in arcades in 1987. Konami’s collection documents the 1988 Famicom and North American NES conversions separately, describing expanded stages and extra presentation in Japan. The recommended edition is the home conversion; selecting the arcade entry from a modern menu produces a different comparison.

Wait for your partner

The spread gun rewards keeping a good run alive, while the basic weapon forces careful aim after a death. Horizontal stretches allow a partner to cover another angle; vertical climbing demands agreement about when to move. Both kinds of stage become easier to read with practice. A second player also introduces new ways to fail together, and that mixture of competence and accidental sabotage is much of the home version’s appeal.

Try it with another player and agree to wait before scrolling a climbing section. Short repeated attempts make the weapon and enemy patterns easier to understand. A clear is demanding, so sampling several stages with save support is a reasonable way to explore the design.

Why we chose it for NES / Famicom

Bring a second player and learn to share the camera. Choose the home conversion, not the arcade entry, in a modern collection.
