Read the assignment

The objectives make a room more than a collection of targets. You may need to examine a computer, protect a person or leave something intact, so progress depends on understanding the assignment. Higher difficulties add reasons to revisit the spaces. Local split-screen changes the mood: the same basic movement becomes a contest over routes, weapons and what everyone can see on the shared display.

Read the objectives before entering a mission and try the available control layouts. Do not assume destroying an object is always useful. For local multiplayer, agree simple rules first and let the maps become familiar before adding restrictions.

Missions and a shared screen

Rare’s Nintendo 64 game dates to 1997. Nintendo’s original site presents mission objectives and two-to-four-player competition as distinct parts of the package. The controller mapping belongs to a period before the modern twin-stick convention became routine, which matters when judging the original handling.

Why we chose it for Nintendo 64

Mission objectives and shared-screen competition make two different uses of the same shooting controls.
