Returning to Zebes

Zebes is easier to read here, but it still rewards a suspicious look at an ordinary wall or an awkward gap. Samus’s growing movement vocabulary makes earlier rooms feel smaller on the return journey. Guidance keeps the main route moving, while optional paths leave space for experiments with momentum and timing. The added late section strips away the security of a powerful suit and changes the rhythm of exploration. Its pursuit sequences offer a sharp interruption, even if players who prefer unrestricted wandering may find that detour more directed.

A remake with its own routes

Nintendo’s 2004 remake of the original Metroid redesigns Zebes and adds material after Mother Brain. New routes and movement options change how Samus crosses the familiar regions. The added stealth section then reverses the usual accumulation of power, asking the player to survive through concealment and escape.

Finish one guided run before worrying about speed or completion percentage. On a second visit, experiment with movement where the route previously felt fixed. A map marker tells you where the story can continue; it does not account for every useful discovery.

Why we chose it for Game Boy Advance

Compare a guided first journey with the extra routes that confident movement opens on a return visit.
