Making room in the sky
The attraction is the density of the action. A new weapon makes a route through a crowded screen seem possible, then another wave arrives before you can settle into it. Survival depends on making small adjustments early; sweeping across the screen late tends to trade one danger for another. The ship’s growth gives a good run an exciting sense of accumulation and makes a death particularly costly.
Treat the first stage as a place to compare weapons and practise recovery. A full clear is a demanding target; getting further with a consistent route is a useful goal on its own. Save between attempts when practising on a reissue.
Following the Aleste name
Released in Japan as Aleste in 1988, this Compile shooter became Power Strike overseas. M2’s collection preserves that naming relationship and keeps the later Master System Power Strike II separate from the Game Gear game that also used the sequel’s English name.
Why we chose it for Master System
A demanding Compile shooter that rewards weapon familiarity and careful recovery. A short practice session is a reasonable starting point.
