Two computer games become a disc adventure

The 1989 date belongs to this combined CD edition. Its underlying computer games were released in 1987 and 1988. Alfa System’s portfolio credits the PC Engine conversion, while the manual credits Falcom and Hudson. Recorded music and voiced scenes give this edition a distinct character within the series.

Adol keeps moving

Adol attacks by making contact with enemies, so approaching slightly off-centre matters more than finding an attack button. Short fights keep the journey moving between towns and dungeons. The second adventure adds magic, changing how you approach creatures and giving the paired stories a welcome mechanical shift.

Read the combat instructions before leaving town. Take notes on clues and save often; the lack of a modern quest log can make a forgotten conversation more troublesome than a monster. Choose an English edition if following the story is your priority.

Why we chose it for PC Engine

A paired adventure gives the CD expansion a clear role in music and storytelling. The English edition makes its clues easier to follow.
