Watch the room
Sissel cannot simply walk across a room. Reaching the next useful object is a puzzle in itself, and making it move at the right moment can alter someone else’s route. Watching a scene first often tells you more than activating everything immediately. The animated cast makes those repeated observations enjoyable, while the mystery gives each rescue a reason to matter. Solutions are authored chains of events, so the pleasure comes from understanding their timing rather than inventing an unlimited range of answers.
Let a sequence unfold before interrupting it. Note which objects move into reach and when a character changes position; a failed attempt can reveal the missing link. Avoid plot guides unless a specific puzzle has stopped being rewarding.
Four minutes to change a death
Shu Takumi’s mystery debuted in Japan in 2010 and reached Europe in 2011. Its four-minute rewinds make a witnessed death the starting point of a puzzle. Object manipulation and character movement then carry information that another adventure might put entirely into dialogue.
Why we chose it for Nintendo DS
