A volley inside the music

The route moves for you, leaving attention free for the cursor and approaching patterns. Holding a lock across a group produces a satisfying release, but waiting for another target can let a projectile get too close. Shots add audible layers to the music, so an efficient attack also changes the texture of the performance. Repeating a stage reveals how much of its apparent rush is a sequence you can learn.

Use a comfortable listening level and try a stage more than once. The first pass can be spent surviving; the next can focus on grouped targets and the rhythm of releases. Vibration contributes to the presentation but is optional.

The original and the expansion

Sega’s catalogue records the Japanese Dreamcast release in November 2001. Contemporary hands-on reporting identifies United Game Artists and describes the connection between guided shooting and audiovisual presentation. Later Rez Infinite adds Area X and other presentation options; those additions are not features of the Dreamcast original.

Why we chose it for Dreamcast

Grouped shots connect a readable rail shooter to the changing texture of its music.
