The main button is easy to find
The controller gives the large A button a dominant position, with smaller buttons arranged around it. Two sticks, analogue shoulder controls and vibration support a range of actions without making every input feel identical. The effect depends on the game: a racing trigger and a camera stick are doing different jobs.
Four controller ports keep local multiplayer within easy reach. Melee asks players to read knockback and the edge of a platform; Double Dash!! adds a second character to each kart. The machine’s social history includes the people beside the television as much as anyone reached through a network.

An optical format of its own
Nintendo specifies an 8 cm disc holding approximately 1.5 GB. These are GameCube game discs, not ordinary movie DVDs. The compact format belongs in the comparison with GD-ROM and the full-size PS2 and Xbox discs, rather than being hidden behind a generic “disc-based” label.
Capacity alone does not explain the library. Metroid Prime organises exploration through changing routes; Pikmin 2 turns the division of a small workforce into a tactical problem. Their feature pages focus on those decisions rather than assuming that more storage necessarily produces a better game.

Choose the connection for the game
The modem and broadband adapters were separate accessories. Nintendo’s historical product page distinguishes online Phantasy Star Online from linked-console Mario Kart: Double Dash!! sessions. A local network and an internet service are different arrangements even when they use the same adapter.
The GBA cable has another purpose: compatible software can communicate with a Game Boy Advance through a controller port. It does not display arbitrary GBA games on the television. That belongs to the separate Game Boy Player accessory.

Read the model number
Nintendo’s accessory documentation records the removal of the digital AV output from later Japanese shipments. A component cable therefore needs the right console as well as a compatible display and game. A photograph of the ports is more useful than an assumption based on the case colour.
An original disc can also run on the compatible RVL-001 Wii. Later Wii variants do not share that facility. Remasters and subscription editions, where documented in the game guide, are separate routes with their own controls and catalogue conditions.
